I've been using the differen variants of the AR and the ion pistol for a couple of months now, and whilst the former is by far they're effective weapon the latter is much more interesting and unique; it feels like a gallente firearm, if that makes any sense. Furthermore, the AR is slightly under performing within the current meta, and while I'm aware that hotfix echo is going to be tweaking many of the AR lineup I'd like to propose are more dramatic shift; allow the burst and TAC to hold and charge a plasma shot exactly like the ion pistol, with the weapon discharging a powerful plasma bolt that automatically overheats it but causes no feedback damage.
Ideally I'd like all of them to do this but in not sure how we could make it happen from the controller input perspective (full auto fire would need a different button to hold to charge), so as to make it the defining feature of the gallente combat doctrine; hit hard, hit fast and overwhelm immediately.
Feedback and trolling is of course welcome ;)

Is that because the mechanics are fundementally poor or because said mechanics don't have the right numbers behind them to make it good? I too find the ion pistol really poor when it comes to actually killing stuff, but I think the core concept of the weapon is very sound and a lot of fun. I like the idea of the AR having the ability to simply punch a massive hole through an opponent with a bolt of plasma that acts as a built-in finisher; other suits might have to switch to a sidearm to get that killing blow but with yor trusty AR that last bullet could do as much alpha damage as a third of the entire magazine. It's very efficient, very gallente.

Many weapons kind of mirror one another in functionality and type, and are differentiated by range, damage profile and suchlike. What I'm really looking for is way to developn the AR, which was once the stock rifle of Dust, into the unique signature weapon of the gallente. I envisaged this as a way to deal a large chunk of apha damage to shock and awe the enemy into submission.

That might not be possible from a technical point of view and even if it were slow-burn damage is not how the Gallente like to do business; plasma blasters are very violent, very powerful weapons that unleash a massive amount of heat upon an object in a fraction of a second as the magnetic containment field that surround the super-heated munition collapses upon contact with other solid matter. DoT is much more of an Amarr kind of thing. To me, anyway.
